Blues & Jazz Great Etta James Dies At 73

Jazz and blues great Etta James passed away this morning in Riverside, California due to complications from leukemia. Etta was known for her beautiful and powerful voice, and was considered by many as one of the best vocalists of all time. She was most well known for her song “At Last” which was recorded in 1960 on Chess Records. Despite a life of turmoil due to drug addiction and legal issues, Etta had an extraordinary musical career. She released 30 albums and 58 singles, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and 2008. In 2003, she received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was awarded six Grammys and 17 Blues Music Awards, and was named No. 22 on Rolling Stones' 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. She has had a tremendous impact on Jazz and R&B music during her lifetime and will be truly missed.
